Dr. Barbara Sturm

Dr. Barbara Sturm, the German molecular scientist behind the infamous “vampire facial” (beloved by the likes of Kim Kardashian West and Gwyneth Paltrow), is on something of a world takeover. Her eponymous medical-chic products can be spotted on the carefully curated vanities of It girls across the globe, and just last year her Düsseldorf flagship was joined by a New York City outpost. Now, after years of searching for the pitch-perfect storefront, she is finally bringing her services to the West Coast with a new boutique and spa in Los Angeles’s West Hollywood.

Of course, the City of Angels is a natural fit for the skin-care guru, whose treatments have long been an awards season go-to. “I think it’s where trends are made and trends are found,” muses Sturm, who recently relocated to a home high up in Beverly Hills—a stone’s throw from her new North Almont Drive brick-and-mortar. To wit, the sprawling space—which boasts five treatment rooms, two infrared saunas, and a showroom (complete with free-floating hand-washing basins) designed by her brother, the architect Tobias Freytag—will be the testing ground for her newest service: a revitalizing scalp massage, which is offered alongside classic protocols such as a 45-minute glow-inducing facial and a next-gen lifting treatment that combines acupressure and nanotechnology.
